- I really haven’t had a problem throughout the recession. I’ve changed jobs 2 times and am now leaving a really high paying job to move to another State (probably take a lower paying job). I guess it all depends on the person’s situation. For me, I don’t have any debt (unless you count my one school loan which is $175 a month – which now I wish I never went back to school, that was a waste of money) other than that my situation allows me to live rather lean. I decided a long time ago that credit cards are not worth having and paid mine off, closed all accounts (3 years ago) I got rid of my new car and bought a vehicle for $1000 which drives just fine (not that pretty but it’s not like I need to make a statement with what I own). I have nice things but don’t need a lot; I eat healthy and stay active jogging, biking, walking and enjoying the outdoors.
I guess the only thing the recession made me realize is I don’t need to keep up with the Jones’s. What I have allows me to have extra money each month to save or spend. Why have the latest and greatest when it’s going to depreciate once you drive it off the lot. That doesn’t make sense… if the vehicle is going to decrease in value, why charge so much?
When it comes down to it… I will buy used. I save more money and get the product that I wanted new for half price. So if the government wants to kick start the economies then stop selling products that are made in Mexico, China, Japan and Taiwan for more than they are worth.
- We are too young of a Country to reflect on which moment really defines us. America has grown so fast in the last 100 years that we are experiencing those growing pains. I think the “moment” that will define us is what we as a Country decides to do next.
- Hey David “missing the point” Remnick. Obama inherited this mess from the last President remember? No one, I mean NO ONE can fix a mess like this in 4 years. Not even the republicans (as much as they think they can) this is a situation where everyone needs to be tolerant and let the President do his job. It’s so easy to criticize and point out the obvious, but I don’t see anyone else making this easier for him. Everyone is on Obama’s case and he is handling it like a real pro. Let’s look at all the good things he has done. Let concentrate on the good instead of dwelling on the bad all the time. It’s always doom and gloom with you guys.
- I think America role should be in Comedy this time, like a romantic comedy. America has already done the action hero role, the drama role and the science fiction role. We need to get to the comedy relief role.
- We should use that money to make the world’s largest twinky. A twinky so big that it reaches coast to coast.
- Any word that is emphasized incorrectly can be hurtful and sometimes slanderous. If a person who is a hillbilly from the backwoods says “hey boy, you look pretty” to another white person, that statement is taken slanderous and can be perceived as a threat. Now if an upper to middle class white man interviewing an African American man says the word “boy” that statement is also slanderous and can also be considered racist due to the usage. Now again it depends on how the white guy used it… does he say cheerfully, “Thank you for your time, you have a good day boy” or did he say in a slanderous way “Thank you for your time, but you are not a good fit for this company boy”. See the difference?
Words are like knifes and people need to be careful how them use them.
- So let me sum up what this film is about for those who can’t get past the immigration issue….
This film is about “Machete” (Danny Trejo) a federale (Police officer) who is betrayed by his boss when trying to take down a known drug kingpin Torrez (Steven Seagal) who has Machete’s wife killed. So let me stop there, so do we get the message yet? A drug lord killed a police officer’s wife and half the police force in Mexico is owned by the drug lord.
Now “Machete” escapes and heads to the US to find a better life and ends up (not knowingly) get’s in a car of a bad guy that works for the drug lord and is told he has to shot the Senator McLaughlin (Robert De Niro) and has no choice but to take the job or he will be killed. No win situation – so he does the right thing and exposes the corruption on the US side and takes down the drug lord on the Mexico side.
So is the movie about Immigration law? No! It’s about stopping the drug problem and corruption on both sides of the fence. Was the issue of immigration brought up in the movie? Yes! But the real issue again is about the drug problem and the corruption that goes along with it on both sides.
So what does this movie say to me? We (US and Mexico) need to work together on ending the violence and murders due to the drug problem and fix the relations between the two countries. To many innocent lives on the Mexico side are being taken due to the drug cartel. And too many Americans (Not just white people, all people who are citizens of the United States, all cultures) are affected by this.
So again enjoy the movie and take away from it what the real problem is. DRUGS!
- Evelyn, please enlighten us on what our president Obama (who was elected to run this great country) wants it to be?
So far I haven’t seen President Obama turn out country into anything different than it already is. He has to clean up after out last President who did a poor job on balancing the economy, war, jobs and so much more.
Do you really think that our current President has the power to do anything un-American to our great country? It’s still “We the people” right?
- Glen Beck is nothing more than a tricksters or social engineer who deliberately deceives and manipulates people, exploiting human weaknesses to obtain personal benefit to feed his self-worth. Anyone who believes what Glen Beck has to say is a weak minded individual who can’t think for themselves. Too many people look for those to tell us what to think rather than to do the homework and make an educated decision.
All Glen does in contradict himself on a daily bases…
Here is his tactic
1st he strikes fear in people, get everyone all riled up.
2nd he comes out acting like he has the answers to fix the problems
3rd He holds a rally playing the part of a messenger from god on how to motivate people
4th collects a huge sum of money and laughs at all the people who fell for it.
- Anything that takes your eyes off the road is dangerous. Driving is just that, DRIVING – not texting and driving, not reading and driving, not putting on makeup and driving, not eating and driving and no one should drink and drive. People are putting too many exceptions in driving. People don’t pay attention as is when driving normal. So to add all these exceptions just make for a more dangerous drive anywhere. Keep it simple people!
