  • People act like this method is so harsh and unusual. In reality, it was the style used right here in America at one time. I know because I was raised by parents who stressed discipline and achievement.

  • I think how a person grows their circle of FB friends has a lot to do with the value of having connections with those people. My FB circle of friends is diverse. I am connected to family members, personal friends and people that I did not know but have learned how to develop good digital relationships with over time. One of the good things about FB is the ability to connect with different people. There are people that I'm friends with on line that I might not have ever met otherwise.

  • I'm an only child. Being alone feels very natural and comfortable to me. I'm more than capable of keeping myself entertained and content.

  • I question if this difference is physical or is it accessability to facilities? Also wouldn't cultural support for this type of activity also work into this theory? Studies also indicate that a lot of Black people drown because they cannot swim. It is not unreasonable to think that if a person trained to swim the body would adapt itself to meet the demands of swimming? Wouldn't that be true for running as well?

  • The response of Ben Jealous in this situation has made me realize that women of color should not expect any protection or support from the national NAACP leadership. Sherrod was used to attack and discredit the organization that he leads. Instead of mounting a defense that included supporting and protecting her professional image, he sided with the people who set the trap in the first place by openly declaring that she was a racist. His message about women of color was very clear to us. I refuse to be snookered by this type of leadership.

  • No, we cannot talk about race honestly until we admit that we are all racist in some manner. This is a part of the problem. No one group wants to own up to working on their prejudice attitudes. This is a great lesson for the nation on demanding the facts of a story. Shirley Sherrod is just another individual who was thrown under the bus in the name of point, counter-point. This is also a great teachable moment for the adults in our society. Either we are going to work on maturing enough to deal with people in a humane and respectful way or we need to plan to be stuck in this muck for generations to come.

  • I do not understand why any employee who is on a break cannot communicate with others in their native language. If they are not working at that time what is the problem? Americans should consider that are many people who speak more than one language. I do not have a problem with a requirement for an individual to be proficient in the use of English in the workplace, but people have the right to use their native languages here. That is a form of freedom of speech. At least it is a freedom by my interpretation of that right. The irony in this situation is the fact that there are native born Americans who are not literate enough to use English in the workplace.

  • It is time to bring this case to an end. Paying the farmers is the beginning of healing the injuries caused by intentional acts of discrimination. I hope that they receive their just reward.

  • I just completed reading the Rolling Stone article. I am not sure that this is the individual that should be leading the troops. While he might be "brilliant" in the eyes of some people, I see him as being arrogant and a dangerous individual because he comes across as wanting to just go in to combat and consider the consequences of his orders afterwards. If McChrystal is in disagreement with the way the war is going then he needs to be removed. I have family fighting in combat right now and he makes me feel very uncomfortable with the attitudes he has openly expressed in Rolling Stone.

  • Don't write off the Boomers ability to deal with this issue. I understand that doctors are not happy with the current status of the system of payment. But I see Health Care Reform as a joint effort between the doctors and patients. Which means that we are going to have to help Congress get a understanding that a fair payment for service is a part of that reform. Since I am a Boomer it is not difficult for me to imagine that we will be doing some form of input and persuasion in this issue. We have inter net access and we will organize to deal with the problems and help with the solutions.

  • I call it a corporate disaster on my blog site. It is not a spill because the oil was not accidentally tipped over. This is the result of corporations not taking the time to use precaution and having a plan to implement immediately in case the operation went wrong.

  • I understand that we are still in the midst of an economic crisis and that there has to be attention given to how to fund programs. But on the other hand the members of Congress need to remember that there are people who are in need of their unemployment benefits. This continual game playing is only adding to the sense of stress and frustration that many Americans feel right now. What are the people who are unemployed supposed to do while Congress plays games? This cannot be a body of elected officals who are that worried about what will happen in the mid term elections. Because we are the Federal Government's Human Resource Directors. I think that those members who are not displaying a sensitive view towards the unemployed need to get fired come November.

  • I have maintained for years that there are people who do just fine without a college degree in some fields. What bothers me is the fact that many high school programs do not provide coursework to prepare students to head straight into the work force. I held office jobs until my degree work was complete. I learned the skills while I was in high school. It seems to be more sensible for school administrators to include programs that prepare students to enter the work force in their communities with a set of good foundational skills.

  • I take my lunch to work. I prepare a mental menu of items that I want to eat during the week. I eat a lot of fresh foods and this is one way to have total control over what I eat. I also treat myself during my lunch hour. I usually have a magazine or book to read or I go outside and enjoy the weather. After I am finished with my meal I usually take a walk around the block to help me prepare for the second half of the day. It is one of the most cost effective ways to provide meals. I save a lot of money by preparing my own meals. I also fix extra to share with my co-workers from time to time.

  • I understand and appreciate the concept. But in reality, how many of the people who utilize corner stores to purchase foods are going to read this book? Please do not think that I am implying that these consumers do not read. But I live in a neighborhood that has several corner stores. There are a lot of decent food choices available. But wouldn't it make sense to educate the store owners as well as the consumers? Because their purchases eventually will impact the consumers choices.

  • I enjoyed listened to the interview. I grew up during the era when Malcolm was a visible leader. I find that many of the statements that he made in the interview still resonate as true to my way of thinking on our right to determine our own destiny and the need for our economic independence. Malcolm's views should be included in studies on The Civil Rights Era. He had a following just like MLK. I think that by excluding his views a false picture is being given about the influences during that era. I have had to correct my own children's thoughts on how we were politically inclined during this era of our story. They use to believe that every Black person in America was willing to take a beating without a response. That we were all willing to go along with MLKs ideology. They were surprised to learn that there were Black people who believed otherwise.

  • Gardening is always an active learning situation in my experience. Adding animals to become independent requires a lot of work as well. I am pro-local food and individuals growing some if not all of their own food stuffs. I hope that other people who are thinking about adding animals will realize that their care requires a lot of work and some working knowledge as well.
