  • People act like this method is so harsh and unusual. In reality, it was the style used right here in America at one time. I know because I was raised by parents who stressed discipline and achievement.

  • I think how a person grows their circle of FB friends has a lot to do with the value of having connections with those people. My FB circle of friends is diverse. I am connected to family members, personal friends and people that I did not know but have learned how to develop good digital relationships with over time. One of the good things about FB is the ability to connect with different people. There are people that I'm friends with on line that I might not have ever met otherwise.

  • I'm an only child. Being alone feels very natural and comfortable to me. I'm more than capable of keeping myself entertained and content.

  • I question if this difference is physical or is it accessability to facilities? Also wouldn't cultural support for this type of activity also work into this theory? Studies also indicate that a lot of Black people drown because they cannot swim. It is not unreasonable to think that if a person trained to swim the body would adapt itself to meet the demands of swimming? Wouldn't that be true for running as well?

  • The response of Ben Jealous in this situation has made me realize that women of color should not expect any protection or support from the national NAACP leadership. Sherrod was used to attack and discredit the organization that he leads. Instead of mounting a defense that included supporting and protecting her professional image, he sided with the people who set the trap in the first place by openly declaring that she was a racist. His message about women of color was very clear to us. I refuse to be snookered by this type of leadership.

  • No, we cannot talk about race honestly until we admit that we are all racist in some manner. This is a part of the problem. No one group wants to own up to working on their prejudice attitudes. This is a great lesson for the nation on demanding the facts of a story. Shirley Sherrod is just another individual who was thrown under the bus in the name of point, counter-point. This is also a great teachable moment for the adults in our society. Either we are going to work on maturing enough to deal with people in a humane and respectful way or we need to plan to be stuck in this muck for generations to come.

  • I do not understand why any employee who is on a break cannot communicate with others in their native language. If they are not working at that time what is the problem? Americans should consider that are many people who speak more than one language. I do not have a problem with a requirement for an individual to be proficient in the use of English in the workplace, but people have the right to use their native languages here. That is a form of freedom of speech. At least it is a freedom by my interpretation of that right. The irony in this situation is the fact that there are native born Americans who are not literate enough to use English in the workplace.

  • It is time to bring this case to an end. Paying the farmers is the beginning of healing the injuries caused by intentional acts of discrimination. I hope that they receive their just reward.

  • I just completed reading the Rolling Stone article. I am not sure that this is the individual that should be leading the troops. While he might be "brilliant" in the eyes of some people, I see him as being arrogant and a dangerous individual because he comes across as wanting to just go in to combat and consider the consequences of his orders afterwards. If McChrystal is in disagreement with the way the war is going then he needs to be removed. I have family fighting in combat right now and he makes me feel very uncomfortable with the attitudes he has openly expressed in Rolling Stone.
