After weeks of fighting accusations of sexual assault against a hotel maid, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, former head of the International Monetary Fund, is facing new allegations. Tristane Banon, a French novelist, is filing a criminal complaint against Strauss-Kahn for attempted rape in 2003. The statute of limitations for rape cases in France is 10 years. Will this case be negatively affected by the outcome of the first case? Or by the media’s attention?

Investigating Nail Salons as Cover For Sex and Labor Trafficking

Today our partner WGBH Radio begins an investigative series about the growing national and international criminal enterprise of human and sexual trafficking, and examines how nail salons in Massachusetts and Rhode Island are being used to hide and legitimize illegal activities. Women are being trafficked to work in salons during the day and then pulled into prostitution at night, and because a salon is a cash-based business, it is a perfect place to launder the money brought in through prostitution.

In her new book "The Trauma Myth: The Truth About Sexual Abuse of Children — And Its Aftermath," she argues that more victims would come forward if we stopped framing sex abuse as terrifying and violent, and instead acknowledged that child victims often love and want to please their perpetrators.
