In a world where one team must face off against another not once, but twice, on the world stage tempers will flare, bodies will be pushed to the limit, and reveling fans will discover if the underdog can triumph over tragedy… or if the top dog will rise again. Cliched? Absolutely, but appropriate: just as they did in 2007, the New England Patriots will face off against the New York Giants in this year's Superbowl.

What if all we had was time? What if our youth was everlasting, but the time we has was limited? In this futuristic sci-fi thriller everyone stops aging at the tender age of 25. The only problem is that the time you have left is a commodity. People trade minutes and hours instead of dollars, leaving a cup of coffee to cost you about 90 seconds, give or take. This is the world that Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried find themselves in as their characters navigate this post-apocalyptic experience. As always we hear from Rafer Guzman, film critic for Newsday, and Kristen Meinzer, culture producer for the Takeaway.

Late January means as many action releases as June and July. Liam Neeson returns to the big screen this weekend with the icy survival flick "The Grey." This Friday also sees "Man on a Ledge," starring Sam Worthington as a police psychologist negotiating with a pack of diamond thieves, whilst on a ledge of course. Find out which flicks are worth seeing, and which ones should wait until DVD release.

This year's Oscar nominations have been announced. Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" lead the pack with 11 nominations including one for best picture. Also nominated for best picture was the silent film "The Artist"; the George Clooney film "The Descendants"; the 9/11 drama "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close"; the Southern story of domestic workers "The Help"; the romantic fantasy "Midnight in Paris"; the sports blockbuster "Moneyball"; the family chronicle "The Tree of Life"; and the World War I epic "War Horse."

Last night was the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards and once again Ricky Gervais played host. Gervais did what he does, a little more gently this time around. The stars were out, well Winner Woody Allen didn't show, but it was a party as usual. Here to weigh in are our Movie Date team, Rafer Guzman, who's also movie critic for Newsday and his co-host Kristen Meinzer, who's also culture producer for the Takeaway.

After the December onslaught of Oscar-hopefuls and arthouse faire, two star-powered crowd-pleasers open this week: "Contraband" and "Joyful Noise." The latter sees the big-screen return of Dolly Parton after a decade, and the former promises big-budget CGI thrills from Mark Wahlberg. But whether or not the year's first popcorn flicks deliver on their excitement and laughter remains to be seen.

Ticket sales were down this year. But was this due to a bad economic climate? Or, were the movies in 2011 just awful? From "Margin Call" to "The Smurfs" and "Tree of Life" — did these movies take down the entire industry? It was probably just a coincedence. 

The last week of the year brings with it Hollywood's last chance to release movies eligible for 2012's Academy Awards. "The Iron Lady" (trailer after the jump), the Margaret Thatcher biopic starring Meryl Streep is among them. The movie is getting mixed reviews, but Streep's performance is said to make her a shoo-in for this year's Oscars. Jonah Hill returns to his slacker comedy roots as an overgrown man child who finds work as a babysitter in his most recent film entitled "The Sitter." Known for his hilarious roles in movies such as "Superbad" and "Knocked Up," Hill recently dropped some weight and starred next to Brad Pitt in "Moneyball." Margaret Thatcher is known as the somewhat belligerent former prime minister of the United Kingdom, and a new film starring Meryl Streep looks into the life of this historic figure. "Iron Lady" follows Thatcher's life as the young daughter of a grocer to a one of the most powerful heads-of-state in a male dominated world. But is "Iron Lady" engaging enough to match the charismatic, strong-willed personality of Thatcher? Over his two decades in Hollywood, director Brad Bird has been behind some of the most beloved animated television shows and movies. Starting out on "The Simpsons" in 1989, Bird would go on to direct two of the most successful and critically acclaimed Oscar-winning Pixar blockbusters, "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille." Now Bird is trying to bring his signature style and success to the world of live action filmmaking with "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol." The fourth installment of the Tom Cruise franchise, "Ghost Protocol" opens in theaters nationwide on Wednesday.

It’s the week before Christmas, the busiest time in movie land, with over half a dozen movies opening in theaters throughout the week. The first batch of films, which hit theaters last night and today, include: "The Adventures of Tintin," "Albert Nobbs," and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." Rafer Guzman and Kristen Meinzer talk about the the big holiday releases.

Who doesn't get chills when they hear the opening banjo riff to "Rainbow Connection"? That was the popular tune payed by a lovable Kermit the Frog in the original 'Muppet Movie' way back in 1979. This week, 'The Muppets' return to the screen after a long hiatus. When Muppet-master Jim Henson died in 1990, some thought these lovable puppets might be gone for good. But they got the whole band back together for a Muppets reunion, with help from Jason Segel and Amy Adams.

Throughout today’s show, the Takeaway has been giving thanks, and looking back at some of our favorite interviews from the past year. Our interview with Jennifer Grant is among them, and it's surprisingly timely for Thanksgiving (listen to the very end to know what we mean). Grant is the daughter of the late Cary Grant, who, for more than 30 years, was one of the most bankable actors in the world, starring in such classics as “Bringing Up Baby,” “The Philadelphia Story,” “An Affair to Remember,” and “North by Northwest.”

We have a lot to be grateful for this Thanksgiving here at the Takeaway, including loyal listeners and unexpected guests.
