New Report Ranks America's Best Hospitals

A new report ranks America's 405 best hospitals based on their quality of treatment for heart attacks, pneumonia, and other critical ailments. Some of the nation's leading health care providers are not on the list. Dr. Mark Chassin, president of the Joint Commission, the hospital certification organization that conducted the study, said, "We recognize that improvement has been happening across the country on these measures, but there are some hospitals that have achieved extraordinary levels of performance."

Haitian Patients Flood Miami Hospitals

Haitian airlifts have resumed, but they're still flying almost exclusively to Florida – and to Miami's overburdened hospitals. According to Florida Governor Charlie Crist, the state has taken more than 500 injured evacuees from the Haiti earthquake since it struck three weeks ago. Doctors there says 150 of those have gone to two hospitals in Miami.

Getting Medical Help to Haiti

The USNS Comfort has steamed into a sea of misery in Haiti. The floating hospital has a thousand beds, which is a big number, but is nothing compared to what's needed in Haiti right now. The worry this morning is will injured people, who would otherwise survive, die for lack of basic medical care. We find out about the status of the medical care there.
