Vijay Iyer (Jimmy Katz)

Acclaimed musician Vijay Iyer was recently named a MacArthur Fellow, in part, for his contributions to changing conceptions of modern-day jazz. Now, he's expanded his artistry through a new collaborative project with veterans returning home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In the new album, "Holding It Down: The Veterans' Dream Project," Iyer puts the stories of veterans' experiences in war and the difficulties they face upon returning home to a soundtrack.

Iyer, along with bassist Harish Raghavan and drummer Marcus Gilmore, perform at the Jazz Standard in New York City from October 31 - November 3. Click here for ticket information.
