H1N1 Vaccine Rolls Out Nationwide

Tuesday, October 06, 2009

The H1N1 vaccine is being slowly distributed around the country. We talk to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute on Allergy and Infectious Disease, about when the vaccine will hit doctors' offices nationwide. Then, we turn to two practitioners who are also parents: Dr. Sandra Arnold, a pediatric specialist in infectious diseases at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, who was one of the first in the nation to get the vaccine. We also talk with Dr. Matthew Davis, a pediatrician and internal medicine doctor at the University of Michigan Medical Center, who just conducted a poll on whether parents will be vaccinating their kids. It turns out that less than half of parents polled are convinced that the vaccine is necessary for their kids.

I find it interesting Dr. Oz took the shot but neither his wife or 4 children will. Call me paranoid but I am one of the healthiest and informed persons you could ever meet and my family is too.

Too bad there was such a hype about pregnant women in this segment. Pregnant women are a small subset of our society (and of the most at-risk people). Let's hear about how other people will be affected: elderly people, ill people, and the healthy young people that I keep hearing will be in danger.
I understand John has a personal interest in how pregnant women will fare when it comes to H1N1, but perhaps his questions from his wife should've been kept for a private, off-air discussion, just like they should've been had he had a list of questions from his grandmother, healthcare worker, etc...or at the very least, a more balanced set of questions should've been presented to the doctors, not the constant "yes, and here's another question about pregnant women even though we've moved past that subject." Not a very good job on unbiased reporting on your part, John, sorry.

@hacobo you had two doctors say that they were definitely giving it to their kids. and you had dr. fauci explain it here. and the cdc website gives all the ingredients. and you think media hype is suspicious? no i think you are.

Why is it so challenging to find the truth about the ingredients of the H1N1 vaccine? There is no way any one in my family is taking this. The way it is being forced on us with all the media hype is suspicious. The 60 Minutes show did a great interview in 1978 regarding the last vaccination program.

Perhaps more should be said about "mercury-free" vaccines? It is possible to request thimerosal-free vaccines.

Btw, it's been reported that none of the vaccines used to protect preschool children against 12 infectious diseases contain thimerosal as a preservative. Is this true?
