Muslims React to Obama's Cairo speech

Thursday, June 04, 2009

There are more than seven million Muslims in the United States, and they overwhelming supported President Obama in the election. To learn about what they anticipated, and what they heard, in today's speech, John and Andrea talk with Ibrahim Abdul-Matin, a Takeaway contributor, Hanien Hassan Hannesy, a resident of Egypt, and Asra Nomani, journalism professor at Georgetown University and author of Standing Alone in Mecca: An American Woman's Struggle for the Soul of Islam. Peter Awn, director of the Middle East studies program at Columbia University, is also offering commentary.

Agree 100%- How can your station, which I support, be so absulutely stupid as to broadcast commercials during the "uninterrupted" speech of the President of the United States. Who was responsible for that decision? My advice is to terminate his or her services for dereliction of duty. Only permitted interruption should be station identification break, done sotto voce while speech is progressing. Steve Carb-NYC

I couldn't agree more - could you have interrupted more often? Either run the speech or don't. The constant interruption was RUDE and way beyond annoying.

I love public radio and have supported WNYC for years but this morning you guys screwed up! 6:10am your station manager person thought it was more important to run all the annoying supporter messages along with your stupid Take Away music cutting away from President Obama's address in Cairo. WTF? We lost a good five minutes of his address. Then you had to top it off with a pledge pitch? YUCK!

To someone's credit, that only happened once but I've got to say, this morning you Took Away the Public from Public Radio! Get your priorities back on line folks.

it would have been nice to have heard the entire speach and not have had repeated "promos" for the take away.
