According to the United Nations, the 2012 refugee level was the highest it's been since 1994. One of the hardest hit areas is Syria, where more than a quarter of the population has already been displaced—and that number is only expected to grow.
Throughout Syria's two-year civil war, more than 5.75 million Syrians have been displaced. Many have fled to neighboring countries, including Jordan and Lebanon, but a staggering 4.25 million remain in Syria.
She recently wrote about this issue for The Christian Science Monitor and joins us today to discuss the ongoing refugee crisis in Syria and elsewhere, including Mali and the Congo.
