It’s been a week since last Friday’s mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado. In that time, the state of Colorado, the public, and the national media have grappled with the best way to respond to the tragedy, and the most appropriate way to talk about it.

Angel;

My understanding of the incident is that Holmes purchased a ticket to the movie, entered the theatre early, then left the theater through the exit door in the front near the screen and somehow propped the door open or taped the latch or otherwise prevented the door from locking behind him. He then went to his car to collect his firearms and those bits of body armor (helmet, etc.) and tactical vest (erroneously thought to have been a bullet proof vest) that he wore during the shooting.

Incidentally, the "body armor" myth in this case is that the shooter somehow weponized himself defensively. If, as I understand it, the shooter wore only a helmet, gloves and shin pads, he had essentially worn a costume, or a tactical-looking getup; he was hardly bulletproof.

That the shooter did have a gask mask is of course another matter entirely as it relates to useful self-defense. Has anyone suggested that the federal government ban the sale of gas masks?

How did Holmes gain access to the emergency doors of the auditorium? Why didn't a midnight showing of a long-awaited movie get attention by at least one patrol car? Why didn't Holmes' neighbors get inquisitive with the landlord when he was transporting containers of liquids into the building?

There is a hint that the shooter might have been possessed. This would be in line with his claim that he can't remember where he was or anything about the incident.
