Tens of thousands of people in the Mid-Atlantic spent the weekend without power after an unexpected group of violent thunderstorms ripped across the region Friday night.
The storms consisted of hurricane-strength winds of around 70 MPH. The damage was the most severe in parts of Northern Virginia and Maryland. According to the Associated Press, at least 13 people died in the storm, including a woman who was sleeping when a tree collapsed on her house.
Suzette O’Connor lives in Potomac, Maryland with her husband and three children. They spent much of the weekend in triple digital heat with no power.
