The New York Times this morning broke a story claiming that U.S. intelligence has been helping Syrian rebels receive arms. We're joined by the author of the story, writer Eric Schmitt. Schmitt is the Terrorism and National Security Correspondent for our partner the New York Times.

This New York Times story breaks the day after news reports claim that British and U.S. leaders are prepared to offer Syrian President Bashar al-Assad clemency if he agrees to help push for a UN-sponsored conference on political transition in Syria. This could put an end to the violence, but would no doubt spell a bittersweet end for many Syrians who want to see al-Assad answer for his actions. Amr Al Azm is a former member of the Syrian National Council and professor of history at Shawnee State University.

Who are the "sources" who are leaking to the NY Times this this morning a "good" story about the administration tracing weapons that "could put an end to the violence" in Syria?
Isn't leaking classified information that is politically advantageous to the administration another scandal that emerged recently compounded with the Fast & Furious scandal?

Of course that obvious point is ignored in the two interviews.
