Davy Jones, the pint-size lead singer for the Monkees perhaps best known for singing "I’m a Believer," died of a heart attack on Wednesday at his home in Indiantown, FL. He was 66 years old. The Takeaway remembers the mop-topped front man of the one of the first "boy bands."

Celeste Headlee you are now officially The Best Eulogist on NPR!
That was a very nice tribute to Davey Jones. No one over 40 can NOT have some fond memories of The Monkees and you really touched on what that group meant for a moment of out up-bringing. Nicely and done. And I thought Scott Simon had a way with words when remembering those cultural icons who have passed on. . . You have a unique gift for chronicling such cultural moments.
About a year ago, you gave a tribute to an operatic mezzo soprano of whom I had never heard and who's name escapes me now. However, your tribute to her was so poignant and heart-felt that I found myself moved to tears over the profundity of the death of someone I didn't know and up to that point hadn't even heard of. (I was at work, by the way, so thanks for that!)When I die, can I have my wife call you?

I was so excited to get tickets for Davy jones at bb king several years ago. What a dissappointmet. He was off pitch, told vulgar jokes that were not funny and was mean to the audience. It was so sad. The back up band was great and did justice to the songs. I think they deliberately kept his mike low so he was barely heard. I will always cherish my Monkees albums, but also remember that you can,t always relive the past. I was covering the concert for a local paper and it saddened me to have to write my review. I,be never enjoyed my job less.

I remember the Monkees and how cute Davey Jones was. Also, when he appeared on "TheBrady Bunch" because Marcia was the president of his fan club.
