The Supreme Court has announced that it will rule on Arizona’s tough immigration law. The case is making its way to the highest court after the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco blocked parts of the law in April. One of the parts of the law in question is a provision that requires state law enforcement officials to check the immigration status of anyone they stop or arrest.

In 1957 Republican President Eisenhower deployed the 101st Airborne Division and federalized the Arkansas National Guard to ensure the civil and peaceful desegregation of a high school in Little Rock. He took this drastic action because the Democrat controlled state government refused to enforce the law due to political and racial considerations and refused to protect its citizens.

Is the Arizona case the inverse of this where a Democrat administration refuses to enforce the law because of political and racial considerations and Republican controlled states are pressured to maintain the law to protect its citizens?

This case is taking a beating on the blogs depending on what blogs are being read. It may be time for some broadening of horizons for our inquisitive journalists.

I applaud the Supreme Court for bucking Obama's naked attempt to avoid this issue before the 2012 election cycle. If the feds are avoiding enforcing immigration law then states must step in to force their hand. Deporting only criminal illegal immigrants is not enough, all illegal immigrants must be repatriated. Equating the Arizona law with Nazism is dishonest and a smear tactic.
