Over the weekend, a front-page article in The Washington Post criticized Texas governor and Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry, whose family's hunting lodge was formerly known by a racially charged epithet. Other GOP candidates have already been vocal in criticizing Perry. Herman Cain told Fox News on Sunday, "I think it shows a lack of sensitivity."

Farai Chideya, journalist and blogger, talks about the implications for the Perry campaign.

Rick Perry grew up in Paint Creek, with no blacks he could care less.

Rick Perry is like most other WASP in the country they could care less about black, brown or any other race besides their own.

This is a pretty silly story in my opinion. First, the Perry's apparently rented this facility. As renters, they did not have the rights to paint over the sign/rock. Second, at the time he and his family were using the camp under it's old name, he was a Democrat - so trying to smear Republicans with this is story is ludicrous. And it is probably because he was a Democrat, that this was never a story in the past. Finally, though not a good excuse for the use of racial epitaphs, racial relations today in the US and particularly Texas are different than in the eighties when the sign was painted over. Looking at this with the perspective of 20-30 years is unfair.
What I find improtant is that the Perry's did paint over the rock. Good for them

This only verifies what everybody knows. The republican party harbors (mostly) veiled racial undertones.

The Republican Party is by a wide margin a lily white party. The current issue regarding Mr. Perry is just a little sampler of what lies beneath the surface. This is the same guy who would send troops into Mexico!!... like they are just gonna let us come in... and not fight back!!. the majority of Republicans think this is still an all caucasian country!!... they are looney.

The same Perry whose Texas pays for illegals to go to High School and College?

By omitting this fact, your guest LOST all credibility.

C'mon guys, be fair. This guy, regardless of your political position, is as complicated and confused as Texas and America.
