East Coast Prepares for Hurricane Irene

Friday, August 26, 2011

Between the earthquake on Tuesday and the hurricane heading our way, the East Coast has been suffering at the hands of Mother Nature this week, and it's only going to continue through the weekend. Hurricane Irene hammered the Bahamas and Florida on Thursday, and the Category 3 storm is set to hit North Carolina on Saturday before blasting up the East Coast through the weekend. North Carolina has already issued evacuation orders for residents along the coast.

Robyn Tomlin, executive editor of The Star News in Wilmington, N.C., speaks with us about how the state is preparing for the storm. Curtis is a freelance writer and editor based in Charlotte, N.C. Anita Kumar, staff writer for The Washington Post, and Doug Doyle, news director of WBGO, Newark Public Radio, also join us.

Guests:

Doug Doyle, Anita Kumar and Robyn Tomlin

You don't have to BUY bottled water, just fill up the bathtub and the biggest pots you have. Why spend money and add to plastic waste when the above works as well and is cheaper. Of course, if you are in a place where your house may blow away the above may not apply (and the bottles of water may not help either).
