Recapping the GOP Debate in Iowa

Friday, August 12, 2011

Last night eight Republican presidential candidates gathered at the Iowa State University in Ames for a televised debate. The eight debaters were: Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, former pizza chain executive Herman Cain, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Who said what, and which candidate fared best?

We're talking with Michael Shear, writer for The Caucus blog for The New York Times. Shear was live-blogging during the debate.

Um... Iowa State University is in Ames -- not the University of Iowa. Start with an error like that, and it's hard to have much faith in the rest of your story.

The latest Republican prez debate has rendered Saturday Nite Live, the Daily Show, and the Colbert Report obsolete because no group of comedy writers could ever out-parody or out-satirize the 8 candidates who appeared on stage last night.
