Thursday, May 05, 2011

Mother’s Day is just around the corner. And aside from flowers and chocolates, what should we be giving Mom? Patrik Henry Bass, Takeaway contributor and senior editor at Essence magazine has compiled a list of books to say "thank you for not being like Mommy Dearest." Patrik calls his list “an ode to some of the moms we’re thankful we never had.”

Patrik's suggested Mother's Day gift list:

  • Aurora Greenway TERMS OF ENDEARMENT
  • Beth Jarrett ORDINARY PEOPLE
  • Ingrid Magnussen WHITE OLEANDER
  • Lila Wingo Newbury THE PRINCE OF TIDES
  • Ida Farange WHAT MAISIE KNEW

You're right, Ann. I don't think Patrick was on message here: "books to read to be grateful you don't have a mom like this." Duh.

This is the worst list EVER! I'm the mother of 3 grown children and Mother's day is a day to relax and enjoy. The list your guest presented was neither relaxing nor joyful. Do you really think mom would enjoy getting these books?! Please just give her a book gift card.
