Listening to a 'Soundtrack for a Revolution' with Danny Glover

Monday, January 18, 2010

In honor of Martin Luther King we look at a new documentary about songs that helped drive the civil rights movement.

We speak with Corey Smyth, music producer of the new film "Soundtrack for a Revolution," and actor Danny Glover, who is the executive producer of the film.  For the documentary, they asked contemporary artists like Wyclef Jean and The Roots to rerecord music emblematic of the Civil Rights Movement.  The filmmakers tell us what motivated them to explore the relationship between music and civil rights, and how they were affected by the movement.  The movie opens on Friday, January 22nd at BAM Rose Cinemas in New York.

Can't believe that there is a whole website about the freedom songs and a whole segment on your show w/o one mention of the SNCC Freedom Singers, truly the voice of the movement.
