Happy birthday, Hubble!

Today marks the 19th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope's launch into space aboard the space shuttle Discovery. Since 1990, the telescope has provided us with more than 570,000 pictures of 29,000 celestial objects. What had you done by the time you were 19?

I was there! I watched the launch on NASA TV from my apartment in Adelphi, MD, and then went over to NASA/GSFC for the swing-shift. The control center was collecting engineering telemetry data, and I was assisting with the operation of some ground system software I was helping to develop and maintain as a NASA contractor at that time. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to be involved in this historic science project.

By the time I was 19 I'd given birth to an amazing young man who is now an almost 30 yr old paramedic student. No disrespect to Hubble, but I'd like to see you pull that one off!
On the serious side, thanks to the entire Hubble team for a breath-taking ride thru the universe.
