It was a year of sports legends in the making. John looks at the 56-game-hitting streak of Joe DiMaggio, 23-year-old Ted Williams' .406 batting average, and "Whirlaway" — the horse that became the fifth ever to win the Triple Crown. (Whirlaway video after the jump.) We also hear from a retired legend: the great Babe Ruth, talking to a group of kids in New York in 1941.
