World leaders confer in Rome as food prices rise

The United Nations has convened a high-level conference of the World Food Program in Rome to discuss the challenges of climate change, bioenergy and food security amid rises prices. Making an appearance is Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, whose own country faces an inflation rate of 165,000 percent.
BBC Radio Five Live reporter Christian Fraser gives The Takeaway an overview of the meeting and discusses the impact of Mugabe’s appearance. Then, a food expert suggests how world powers could refocus energies not solely on aid, but also on food production.
Guest: Pedro Sanchez, director of Tropical Agriculture at the Earth Institute at Columbia University. He’s also co-chair of the Hunger Task Force of the UN Millennium Project, and 2002 recipient of the World Food Prize.
