Southeast Struggles to Recover From Floods

Georgia and much of the Southeast is recuperating from the heavy rains and floods that destroyed homes and cars this week. Ten people have officially been reported dead because of the floods. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue declared a state of emergency and has asked the federal government for assistance. For an update on the situation, we speak to Susanna Capelouto, news director for Georgia Public Broadcasting, and Angela Olson, whose house was damaged in the flooding.

Republicans push for changes in stimulus bill, then don't support it

Senate Democrats advanced the $800 billion plus stimulus bill yesterday, but just three Republicans voted for the bill in a procedural vote, and no additional Republican support is expected in the final vote today. Even though they don't support the bill, Republican Senators pushed for many changes in it. Takeaway Correspondent Andrea Bernstein and Susanna Capelouto, News Director of Georgia Public Broadcasting, join Todd and Katherine to talk through why that might be.

Counting votes

Georgia is still red for a fourth consecutive presidential election, but in the Senate race, things aren't clear two days after Election Day. Votes are still being counted, and there may well be a runoff election called for Dec. 2 between Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss and Democratic challenger Jim Martin. Georgia Public Broadcasting News Director Susanna Capelouto explains the status of the race, while Paul Gronke, director of the Early Voting Information Center at Reed College, scores Tuesday's voting process.
