The mental side effects of a drug withdrawal are often debilitating, and can include anxiety, confusion or mild to severe depression. This is true of cigarettes, alcohol, and heroin. But could it apply to the internet as well? According to a study conducted by the London based behavior research company Intersperience, 53 percent of people feel upset when they are separated from the internet, and 40 percent feel "lonely." Do these withdrawal symptoms mean that the Internet is a drug? And if so, what should be done to curb our national addiction?

During last week’s tech segment, we explored military technology that’s being developed for use in the near future and the far-off future. Among the inventions that had a lot of us on the edge of our seats was the telepathic helmet, which will eventually make it possible for soldiers in the field to communicate without making a sound, as well as think more cohesively as a unit.

Of course, this kind of technology makes a lot of us afraid that the government and regular folks will eventually be able to read our minds. But Brad Allenby - Chair of the Consortium on Emerging Technology, Military Operations, and National security - assured us that that day is a long ways off.

A few weeks ago, Roz Chast, esteemed New Yorker cartoonist, created a cartoon that had us all charmed. It depicted an imaginary "Google Magazine" with story titles like "Capitol Nebraska What" and "Parakeet Molasses Safe." For this week's tech segment, we talk with Roz about how she came up with her cartoon, and how Google has become a regular part of her life.
