We asked you to submit your photos of Hurricane Irene, which moved from the Outer Banks of North Carolina to New England over the weekend, weakening from a Type 1 hurricane to a tropical storm, killing at least 16 people and shutting down public transit in Philadelphia, Boston and New York. Oh, no, that's right, it was for participating in a peaceful protest on her own time.

I understand the author of this article was fired for attending a non-partisan march on her own time. It's unclear to me how her participation, on her personal time, in a non-partisan movement warrants termination from a job at NPR. As a member of WNYC, I would like an explanation.
