Alex here, Senior Producer on the night shift today ... All is going pretty much as planned. We've only added one major addition to the show. We've been curious for a while about the graphic nature of the images coming out of the rubble in Haiti. Our partner The New York Times was too. So we're planning a discussion on the changing norms of photojournalism. Are we bound forever more to see the most graphic pictures on front pages as newspapers are forced to keep pace with amateur photographers and social media distribution? Or is there something special about Haiti and coverage of this earthquake?

Jim (the web editor) here, with the first update of the first day of the week (the last week of the month!). And this week we’re gearing up for President Obama’s first ever State of the Union address. All week, we’re asking listeners and guests (and anyone in earshot) to give us their take on the state of our union now. Bonus points if you can do it in just six words.
On tomorrow’s show, we’re planning to take a closer look at the president’s attempts to connect with everyday Americans. As we talked about this morning, the Democrats’ loss in Massachusetts hints at a growing disconnect between the White House and Main Street. We’re reaching out to voters in Ohio, where the president made an appearance late last week.
We’ll also have an interview with presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin to see how unique this moment in history actually is.
Our Haiti coverage continues with a possible look at a problem with doctors in the quake-ravaged region: There are plenty there, but a shortage in nurses means the wounded survivors aren’t getting the necessary follow-up care.
Our weekly work conversation explores a new trend in “vocation vacations.” Contributor Beth Kobliner tells us why some people are taking a break from work to do more work. We’ll also hear from someone who just tried it out.
Stay tuned for more updates on tomorrow’s show. We’ll bring them to you throughout the day.
And remember to leave your six word State of the Union message on our website now.
