Details of the devastation in Haiti continue to trickle out in the aftermath of yesterday's earthquake. Haitian government officials have made some shocking early predictions on CNN about the number of dead topping 100,000. We at The Takeaway are dialing (and skyping/tweeting/emailing...) furiously trying to reach reporters and aid agencies on the ground for their reports on the damage and, just as important, for the tales of survival, kindness and heroism that also seem to be widespread.
Tomorrow, we'll check back in with Americans trying to reach family in Haiti. We'll talk with reporters in Miami, New York and Port-au-Prince, and look ahead to long-term rebuilding strategies with first responding aid workers, as well as so-called second responders who stick around for the long haul.
We're also monitoring activity in Washington. Congress is on a fact-finding mission to understand what caused the financial crisis. We have the chair of the committee, Elizabeth Warren, and an expert witness coming on the show.

I always thought a doctor having me rate my labor pain was the most ludricous question, until I heard John Hockenberry from the Take Away radio show interrupt a woman in tears who was speaking about Haiti this morning: "We've got just a minute to go. You are going back and forth between your own personal grief and also having to mobilize to help the people. How do you do that?"
