Each week, Newsday film critic Rafer Guzman and Takeaway producer Kristen Meinzer get in a heated, but friendly debate about the movies. This week, inspired by "Runaways," they take on movies about rock and rock bands.
Rafer Guzman is the film critic for Newsday and a former rock critic for the paper. He was previously a staff writer at The Wall Street Journal. His work has also appeared in Rolling Stone, Blender, The San Francisco Bay Guardian and the late, great Option magazine.
Kristen Meinzer is an associate producer for The Takeaway and co-host of The Takeaway's Movie Date podcast.

I listened to these bands alongside Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden in the early 90s. Interestingly, that period was a lot less hostile to women rockers, probably, because the industry (and the listening audience) was not mandating that its women all look like blow up dolls. Grunge, ironically, was probably the best thing that could happen for girl power in the music industry...
