Thirteen countries in the world ban HIV-positive visitors from entry, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Sudan, Moldova... and the United States. We take a look at the ban and ask why that law has stayed on the books.

Takeaway facts:

  • There are 13 countries that ban HIV-positive visitors: Armenia, Brunei, China, Iraq, Libya, Moldova, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Sudan and the United States.
  • China has said it will consider lifting its ban in the run-up to the 2008 Olympics.
  • The U.S. Senate will consider lifting the ban following the Memorial Day recess.
