North Korea Threatens Pre-Emptive Nuclear Strike

Thursday, March 07, 2013

Reacting to the prospect of more UN sanctions, North Korea is, for the first time, threatening a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the United States and South Korea -- an attack that would turn Washington and Seoul into "a sea in flames."

North Korea has also declared the 1953 armistice that stopped the Korean War null and void. Charles Armstrong, director of the Center for Korean Research at Columbia University explains what's behind these threats and how the international community should respond.
