There is a growing sense of emergency about the Syrian refugees who continue to pour into neighboring countries, as they flee Syria's ongoing civil war. According to UN estimates, the number of Syrian refugees living in Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and Iraq, has exceeded the million mark.
Last week at an international conference on Syria, that was held in Rome, U.S Secretary of State John Kerry announced for the first time that the U.S. would send aid directly to Syrian rebels in an effort to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad. Kerry also promised $60 million in additional help for the Syrian opposition.
Nancy Lindborg and has seen the needs of Syrian refugees firsthand. Back in January, Lindborg, the USAID Assistant Administrator, traveled to refugee camps in Turkey and Jordan to learn more about the crisis and the problems facing the refugees.
