Vietnam War veterans like John McCain are not new to national politics, playing a small but vocal role in Congress. But now two Vietnam vets are poised to join President Obama's cabinet in foreign policy roles.
The president has nominated Massachusetts Senator John Kerry for secretary of state and Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel for secretary of defense. Both were wounded in the war. Bryan Bender is the Washington reporter for The Boston Globe.

Very interesting slip at the conclusion of the Hagel/Kerry segment.
McCain and what he could have been?
War Veterans, who know the ramifications of battle, should be the ones in charge of our National Defense. They can identify with the young men who might be asked to sacrifice their life for their country.
The media spin about Vietnam Veterans was severely downplayed in 2008 when McCain ran for office but played up in 2004 when Kerry ran for office.
The phony political narrative that is peddled by the media is quite mercurial, isn't it?
With Kerry and Hagel suddenly being vastly rich and past bigoted comments magically are not important issues anymore with the media.
