A new look for Valentine's Day A new look for Valentine's Day (sugarraindrops_/flickr)

The love story can be epic in nature. It can inspire thousand-page Russian novels and three hour movies and mini-series that stretch out on television for days. But the love story can — with some effort — also be told more succinctly, in a haiku or even in something smaller.

As we lead up to Valentine’s day, we’ve been asking you to share your love stories in only six words. They can be tragic stories, happy stories, stories of comic heartbreak or fulfilling reconnection. All we ask is that they relate in some way to the themes of love or loss. And your stories have been pouring in.

Many of you chose loss as your theme.

Laurel writes:

We met. I loved. He lied.

Carol writes:

She was gone, way too soon.

And Beufort’s story:

I never should have told her.

But most of you chose to focus on love. One listener writes:

Prayed for miracle. God sent Barbara.

Maria writes:

It took forever, but finally happened.

Julie writes:

One door closes another one opens.

Peter Benz is from Detroit, Michigan, where he listens on WDET. Here's his six word story of love and loss:

Drank. Stopped. Now I can love.

And Pat Poon, from Teaneck, New Jersey, listens to us on WNYC. He'res his six word love story:

We met in front of CVS.
