The Power of a Petition

It was just a month ago that The Takeaway spoke to Carole Simpson about being the first, and only, female to have ever moderated a presidential debate. Just yesterday, The Commission on Presidential Debates announced that she would not be the last. They announced that CNN's Candy Crowley will be moderating a debate this year.

This development comes amidst a petition started by three high school students in Montclair, New Jersey, who asked the Commission to select a female moderator. The petition, which was started on change.org, received over 180,000 signatures.

Elena Tsemberis is one of the students who started the petition.

Gov. Romney's present investment in Chinese companies that have taken jobs from Americans and his avoidence of U.S. taxes by using tax shelters in Cayman islands and Swiss bank accounts indicates to me Gov. Romney is part of the problem not the solution.

As a republican female my views would be better represented by a republican moderator. But bias against republicans is not only acceptable by required to be a BIG media talking head.

A 16 year-old student, making a difference, is a nice story.

Candy Crowley being named as a Presidential debate moderator two days after she referred on-air at CNN to the naming of Paul Ryan as Romney's running mate as a kind of "ticket death wish" is something of an obscene joke on journalistic balance.

This 16 year-old has a bright future -- as a future delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2016 -- when she suggests that men are somehow disqualified from legislating issues relating to human reproduction. She wasn't following your (attempted) helpful lead, John.

Here's another Presidential debate story for the producers at The Takeaway; in the quest to get all kinds of gender representation among the journalists at debates, what thought is being given to ideological representation?
