If wind speeds aren’t prohibitive Monday, a steel column will be lifted on top of the existing framework of 1 World Trade Center, making it New York’s new tallest building. The first column of the 100th floor of 1 World Trade Center will put the tower 21 feet higher than the Empire State Building — inching it all the closer to its final height. By the time the tower is complete next year, it will stand at 1,776 feet. Carol Willis, director of the Skyscraper Museum puts 1WTC's ascendancy over the Empire State Building into context.

WTC 1 was completed in 1969 and WTC 2 in late 1971, just before Roe v. Wade in 1972, so the WTC was the same age as legalized abortion in NY, then in the nation. The twin towers. And they are no more.
After 1969 hotels were built at the airport so people could fly into NY and have an abortion and fly home. And it was two planes that brought down the WTC towers.
But how good is God, that most people were able to get out of the towers before they fell.
The view from atop of this new building won’t be any clearer for America and the real effects on our society from the original towers being dropped in what is largely considered a False Flag Operation. Under the guise of fighting terrorism, the Patriot Act was adopted WITHOUT public approval or vote just weeks after the events of 9/11. A mere 3 criminal charges of terrorism a year are attributed to this act, which is mainly used for no-knock raids leading to drug-related arrests without proper cause for search and seizure. The laws are simply a means to spy on our own citizens and to detain and torture dissidents without trial or a right to council. I work across West Street from 1 WTC in the World Financial Center, where I have a view both of the new skyscraper and the 9/11 Memorial. I can see some welding right now on what appears to be the 2nd highest floor of the Freedom Tower. For me, the rising from the ashes of the attacks reminds me of Lincoln's remarks at Gettysburg, specifically: ..."that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
As a young man working in red hook Brooklyn I watched the WTC going up..in 1972 I began working in 1WTC. I as many New Yorkers became to regard the trade center as our second home. It was the center of the universe to many of us. A wonderful building that holds many memories for me and my wife..I met her there. It simply elevated your outlook by merely walking thru the lobby and rarely has a building meant so much to so many world over. I only hope the freedom tower wil have the same impact.

The attempt to "rebrand" the events of 9/11 by naming this tower the "Freedom Tower" does not surprise me, as Americans, we're not good on facing the truth...although I would think someone on npr would have picked up on it. The attack on the World Trade Center was not an attack on our "freedom," it was an attack on our economic policies; otherwise, they would have attacked the Statue of Liberty or Independence Hall.
The erection of this edifice symbolizes the restoration of New York potency in the U.S.A. and in the world.
I still miss the WTC towers, and the new building just feels like a consolation prize. I see it every day biking into Manhattan, and can't feel good about it, no matter how hard I try.
It seemed to me that the WTC disaster had the message 'stop abortion': the times the planes hit and the towers fell add up to 3737, the reverse of 73 twice. And 'Liebeskind' - love child, etc. Since we haven't stopped abortion yet, I wonder if this will ever get built, as noble a project as it is. Just a suspicion.
