The war in Afghanistan is now 11 years old, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier for America to achieve a graceful departure from the region. Yesterday the LA Times posted 18 photos online of soldiers posing with the body parts of Afghan insurgents. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said of the photos, "Anyone found responsible for this inhuman conduct will be held accountable in accordance with our military justice system." That may be so, but to Afghans this may appear as yet another insult in a long series of errors that may undermine American plans for full troop withdrawal by 2014. The United States and her military are blamed but strangely the President and Commander-in-Chief who supported the war and ordered them there is never mentioned.
Arrogant" Americans are blamed in Colombia but the arrogant administration that ordered them there is passed over at a time they happened to be pandering to the women and Latino vote.
Is this a partisan damage control narrative by the media to protect the administration with the character of the nation he leads acting as a human shield? Blame the American people and not him as we run out of others to blame for his flawed leadership.
One of the rationalizations for voting for Obama was that he improve the image of the US abroad? Any journalists care to ask how that is going at the risk of offending their "progressive" audience?
