Last night in a press conference, Florida state special prosecutor Angela Corey announced the charges filed against George Zimmerman for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin on February 26. Zimmerman was arrested yesterday on charges of second degree murder.

I truly hope that they are able to convene an impartial jury for Zimmerman. Everyone deserves and is entitled to a fair trial. I'm a little ashamed to admit that I would not be able to be impartial, though. Trayvon Martin reminds me too much of many of my own high school students, who are subjected to racial profiling on a daily basis, and this case makes me fear for them even more than I did before. Whether we have all the facts or not, I have unfortunately already made up my mind about Zimmerman's actions and intent.
