An armed convoy believed to be carrying loyalists to Col. Moammar Gadhafi crossed the Libyan border into Niger late on Monday. It is unclear whether the fugitive Libyan leader or his family were in the convoy. The loyalists may be heading to Burkina Faso, which has offered asylum to Gadhafi. The BBC's Jon Leyne, who is in Benghazi, says it would have been impossible for such a large convoy to leave Libya without NATO turning a blind eye.

Regarding the Ryan Avent segment: I read his piece in the Times as well. Ironically, this is the free-market version of the environmental radicals' argument that we should force people into cities because it is easier on the planet. Both are based on the notion that there is only one factor on which we should make these decisions. Never mind open space or quiet. Never mind that some of us would prefer not to live in a deregulated hell of densely packed economic production units (formerly known as "people"). Perhaps Mr. Avent can better use his talents to create more density in industrial chicken coops.
