I worked in the Canadian nuclear industry for over 30 years and have been retired for almost 13 years. I was not happy when the Canadian (Harper) government overruled our Canadian nuclear regulator, when the regulator wanted to delay the startup of NRU until the upgrade of the safety systems where complete. As it happen the "worst case" did not occur as it unfortunately did in Japan.
Why don't they have robots that can drag a fire hose, like bomb squad robots? Or could they outfit one of the firetrucks with remote controls? The airdrops looked pathetic and the actual volume of water was not so much...
