Father’s Day is this weekend, and in honor of the big day, we’re looking at some of our favorite fathers in fiction. Patrik Henry Bass, Takeaway contributor and senior editor at Essence magazine, says there are lessons to be learned from dads in novels like "Shoeless Joe" and "About a Boy," which tells the story of a man who learns how to grow up from a young boy.

Agree w/ Jason from MI: Atticus Finch.
My least favorite would be Dwight, the stepfather in "This Boy's Life".
It has to be the father from Gone With the Wind and Life with Father. Okay I know those were both turned into movies but both of the actors did a fabulous job potraying those dads. You gotta love Clark Cable with his little daughter Bonnie.
My favorite fictional dad is Atticus Finch. As for non-fictional dads, I was very struck by the recent peice about Cary Grant. Based on what I heard, the fact that he essentially chose to leave Hollywood behind to spend time with his wife and children and ensure that they had normal lives (to the extent that is possible having a famous father).
