Newark Public Schools, which have been rated the worst in the country, have been given an infusion of $100 million from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The gift is a bonanza, but it is also highlights a school system in dire need.
We're wondering: how did it get this bad? And is there a chance this amount of money could actually help improve things? WNYC reporter Bob Hennelly covered the area for many years, and says that reform has been a long time coming - and it may not be here just yet.

Cory Booker is the Mayor of Newark. Cory Booker is a very articulate, inspired and inspiring gentleman who has recognized the value and power of social media. Booker is very active on sites like Twitter, and he reports finding the time well spent. Rather than being a distraction from his community, Booker has found his broader social media network to be a resource for innovative ideas and support for what he is working to accomplish in that struggling community. Its a great outcome for Newark, which we hope will be judiciously spent to maximize the benefit to the Newark community. Good move, Zuckerberg!

Really? You think that the appropriate comment from you is simply to make snarky remarks questioning his motivation for the donation?
