At Denver University's Korbel School of Int'l Studies earlier this summer we had a fascinating lecture given by Ben-Ami of J Street. It felt hopeful to have both Palestinians and Zionists dialoguing in the Q&A afterwards, but I have to say I was really struck by the assumption that a Zionist Israel's "right to exist" was just assumed by the speaker, whereas the "right of return" for the Palestinians was declared impossible, and to me, this is the crux of the problem. Where are the Palestinians expected to LIVE? Stephen Colbert in his "Formidable Opponent" show with the Israeli ambassador right after the Flotilla killings asked it best....referring to the flack Helen Thomas received when suggesting the Israelis return to wherever they came from... saying that if anything, those Palestinians should go back to where THEY came from to the flummoxed ambassador.
