This week we’ve been talking a lot about the people and groups financially supporting political candidates in the mid-terms. But there is another national election we’re following where American money could have a major influence. Haiti’s presidential election is on November 28th. Candidates in that election have been actively campaigning State-side to raise money.
Jaqueline Charles, is the Caribbean correspondent for the Miami Herald and is covering the lead up to the election. She says since there is no clear front runner in the campaign and there is only a little over a month until the election, it remains to be seen whether Haitian-American support in the States will help presidential candidates in Haiti.
Elda James hopes that support will help. She recently organized a Boston-based fundraising recent event for Joseph Michel Martelly, one of Haiti’s presidential candidates.
