Health Care Reform: How the New Bill Affects Doctors and Small Business Owners

Monday, March 22, 2010

Last night the House of Representatives voted on an historic national health insurance reform bill. A hundred years in the making, this is going to have deep and lasting effects on every man, woman and child in America.

We get three takes from people who stand to have their lives and livelihoods changed forever by this reform: John Brown is the vice president of Brown Furniture Company in Shawnee,  Okla. Michael Pramenko is president-elect of Colorado Medical Society and a family physician in Grand Junction, Colo. And Dr. Herbert Pardes is president and CEO of New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Aside from bringing more people into the insurance pool, there appears to be little done to address cost. So, for example, assume a married family of 4 making $100k in 2014 - Is there a figure in the bill for what the average family health insurance premium would be in 2014 and what, if any, tax break will be provided to pay for health insurance?

How exactly will this affect my existing health insurance with NYWC? Will I have to put more money into my health benefits?
