US Increases Presence in Haiti as Aid Increases

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Haiti continues to struggle in its need for assistance, and just this morning, a 6.1 quake hit the country. We check in with Michael Deibert, author of "Notes from the Last Testament: The Struggle for Haiti," who is on the ground in Haiti, about how the country is sustaining after the tragedy and the role of international assistance.

On Tuesday, American helicopters arrived at the National Palace in Haiti and international aid continues to pour into the devastated country. The government has already counted the dead at 50,000, but that number could reach 200,000, according to Haitian officials. Michael Deibert updates us on the efficacy of aid and the role of the U.S.

Although the assistance of foreign aid is necessary at this point, I wonder what it means for the future of Haiti. Will this be the chance for true reformation there?

Great to hear Deibert on the ground there, he's been a long time supporter of Haiti and it's people.
