Trapped in the Dark: Chilean Miners Live Through Nightmare Scenario

Thursday, August 26, 2010

The 33 Chilean miners still trapped underground will need to stay mentally strong - and stay physically thin. Chile's health minister says the escape tunnel being drilled for the miners will prevent the passage of anyone with a waist size bigger than 35 inches. In the meantime, soap, clothes, games and food packages are being sent down to the men.

For the latest from the mine we turn to Eva Salinas, editor of The Santiago Times We'll ask Eva if there is debate in Chile over the decision to keep from the miners that they might be trapped for up to four months.

And we take a look at what could broadly be called a human fear of being trapped - and of being in the dark. The acclaimed novelist and playwright Ariel Dorfman joins us for a look at where the miners' minds might be.

Guests:

Ariel Dorfman and Eva Salinas

Please tell me the name of the Chilean song you played and singers or recording so i can obtain a copy. Is there lyrics translation? Just beautiful. No need to use my name on the air.
