Today, troops from the 101st Airborne Division's 4th Brigade Combat team will leave for Afghanistan from Fort Campbell in Kentucky. It's been a tough couple of months for the 101st. They've lost 41 troops in Afghanistan since March.
In December of last year, President Obama announced he would send 30,000 additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan. Obama’s surge in Afghanistan was intended to function like the one in Iraq: to send an overwhelming number of troops and turn the tide of the conflict. Today, troops from the 101st Airborne Division’s 4th Brigade Combat Team will leave for Afghanistan from Fort Campbell in Kentucky to bring the surge to its peak.
