Dependency on the Big 3 is a large part of Detroit's economic problems but politicians making bad decisions cannot be overlooked. Twenty years of divisive leadership under Coleman Young, the antics of the Detroit City Council, and the debacle of former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick are only a few of the political horrors Detroit has faced.
