I don't know anything about Mr. Tarrance McNight an at this point I really have no intret to find out more about him. I have heard enough of his un-educated, short-sited biased opinion. If the Russian and Romanian musicians were only allowed to compose in a certain manner, so are the talk show hosts and the music critics of this society. The latter's opinion is dictated by money and rating and NPR's is no exception to that, just look the list of the corporations sponsoring NPR programs. I resented the mocking tone of the host who promoted McNights ignorant opinion as the absolute truth.
I had the misfortune to wake up this morning to this ignorant piece of nonsense. It made my blood boil. That public radio should add to the misinformed American conflation of Communism and socialism is absolutely mind-boggling. Stalin was not a socialist. Tony Blair is.
I expect more from NPR. I've generally been appalled at the quality of The Takeaway, and this was the last straw. It doesn't matter how much podcasting, Facebooking and Twittering you do, if you can't get your facts straight. That's the difference between blogging and journalism. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
I am shaking with rage after listening to this segment. It's bad enough that most Americans don't understand what socialism is--or that most of the rich European countries are social democracies. But to talk about the oppression of artists under "socialism" when indeed, you were talking about two communist states. Nice. Now when the yahoos who think obama/socialism take away my money they can think, obama/socialism/can't listen to rap/jazz/anything the govt doesn't think is good.
Thanks so much for adding more fuel to the fire of ignorance that engulfs this country.
